The Escape of the Ego (Fuga di Ego)
Ciao, my name is Diego Fuga. I believe in a single vibration that interacts with everything and everyone. My passions move from spiritual life to quantum physics. When I think about art I see the space between things, a sort of etere keeping the different elements. This is the beginning of my artistic experience: I always desired it. I come from a communicative "commercial" environment (fashion photography) and a moment that never stops in my professional work is presenting a photo portfolio to potential clients. I sit in front of them while they look at my work. It's always the same process in this moment. I'm observing a stranger observing me through my images. None of these elements are ever the same. The client changes, the picture changes me, I feel different every time. Every element keeps transforming around the same effort of somebody trying to understand somebody else in a short time using different instruments. My pictures are just an instrument. What really captures my attention is the relation that those images generate between me (a creator who becomes an observer) and the observer. This electrochemical alchemy called feeling is what fascinates me the most. The observer becomes the orchestra's director. His feelings, influenced by my instrument, are the real value of what I'm doing. Without his observation, my reasons disappear and I disappear with them. He who observes intimately wants to understand and automatically creates. There is no difference between he who creates and he who observes. Years ago, during a magic journey, I met an old Indian man. He could see everything I was about. I asked him a question. He asked me to pick a stone from a bag. He told me the stone I picked showed the answer being in my name. For the first time I observed that Diego Fuga (which is my real name just for a double coincidence) was hiding FUGA DI EGO, which perfectly suited my question. A single knowledge described by two opposites. Our individualism and our belonging one to another. The escape of the ego is by now the title of my research. The possibility of imaging everything, of creating it and witnessing it, remembers an antique divine expression inside human limits. When you smile because of something that involves you, I realize myself. This installation celebrates you, gives you a different point of view and finally helps me to understand us better. I can only hope you enjoy it. |
